Here are some tips to prevent an accident or loss that could interrupt or delay your getting back to business:

Exterior

Ensure an exterior inspection is conducted of your building or leased space for roof/siding damage and safe walking/driving surfaces, including entryways and parking areas, security camera operation, and parking lot lighting.

New & Returning Employees

Ensure proper protocols are in place for employee and customer safety. Make sure you have COVID-19 preparedness, response, and control plans in place. All employers should implement and update as necessary a plan that:

  • Is specific to your workplace
  • Identifies all areas and job tasks with potential exposures to COVID-19
  • Includes control measures to eliminate or reduce such exposures

Interior Building & Mechanical System

  • Ensure an interior inspection for roof leaks and general condition while vacant, including any evidence of rodent/insect infestations or vandalism
  • Confirm proper operation of all lighting and mechanical/HVAC systems and turn off/on circuit breakers

Interior Security

Test security system cameras, motion/perimeter sensors, fire/smoke alarms, computer/cash register, and internet accessibility

Patron Safety & Security

  • Ensure adequate life safety (addressing any blocked exit doors, egress pathways, etc.)
  • Cleaning of all public restrooms
  • Consider assigning employee(s) to frequently re-clean high touch points in common areas while building is open

Salon Specific

  • Assure proper storage of flammables
  • Confirm proper installation of laundry equipment (i.e., anti-burst washer hoses; ensure dry exhaust duct is metal and connected directly to the exterior; conduct routine dryer duct inspections/cleanings)

Consult with and update your insurance agent prior to and during your reopening.
